EPS Universal System C Membrane

Impermeable Geomembrane for No-Infiltration and Contaminated Land Applications

The EPS Universal System C Membrane is an impermeable, flexible geomembrane
designed for use in System C no-infiltration applications. It is suitable for sites where
rainwater must be captured within the sub-base and directed away safely, preventing
infiltration into contaminated ground.

Placed beneath the sub-base and taken up the vertical sides, the membrane forms an
enclosed storage area that temporarily holds rainwater as it drains through the paving layer.
This controlled design prevents contaminants within the ground from being washed into
nearby watercourses and supports compliance on environmentally sensitive or brownfield
sites.

The membrane is compatible with outlets that divert water to swales, ponds, sewers or other
approved drainage systems.

System C – No Infiltration

System C is used where the ground cannot allow infiltration due to contamination or
environmental risk. All rainwater that enters the construction build-up is contained within the
membrane-lined sub-base and directed to appropriate drainage points.
This approach is used on projects where protecting water quality and managing
contaminated land is essential.

Key Features and Advantages

Contaminated Land Suitability

Suitable for use on sites contaminated with radon, carbon dioxide and methane.
The membrane helps prevent pollutants from entering groundwater or local watercourses.

High Performance Characteristics

• Impermeable geomembrane designed for no-infiltration systems
• 4 metre wide centre-fold membrane for efficient installation
• Premium DPM and vapour barrier performance
• Extremely tough with excellent resistance to tear and puncture
• Flexible and easy to handle on site
• Long term durability in buried conditions

Environmental Protection

• Prevents rainwater from infiltrating contaminated soil
• Forms a sealed tank beneath the sub-base
• Supports responsible drainage design
• Reduces the risk of contaminants reaching surface water or drainage networks

Where This Membrane Is Used

The EPS Universal System C Membrane is used in situations where infiltration cannot occur,
including:

• Contaminated land and brownfield developments
• Paved areas requiring controlled water discharge
• Car parks and public open spaces
• Commercial and infrastructure projects
• Sites requiring groundwater and environmental protection
• Developments with attenuation or controlled drainage requirements

Installation Overview

For correct performance, the membrane should be:
• Laid on a smooth, compacted surface free from sharp objects
• Installed beneath the sub-base and taken up the vertical sides
• Lapped and sealed using appropriate jointing tapes
• Protected during backfilling with suitable protection layers
• Connected to outlet pipes or drainage channels as required
• Installed according to accepted geotechnical and drainage practices

Performance and Compatibility

The EPS Universal System C Membrane provides:
• Reliable impermeability to water
• Strong resistance to puncture and on-site handling
• Compatibility with drainage layers, protection boards and geotextiles
• Long term stability when installed under paved surfaces
• Effective integration within wider EPS geotechnical systems
